~cozy cottage~

Hello friends!

Talk about awol....sheesh...
it has been awhile~ huh?

it seems posting takes so much more time
now due to the new picture format blogger uses...
has anyone else been struggling with this?

it seems like way more steps now~
but anyhoo.....I came across this cute
cute cute house/cottage/mill/home
and had to share!!

and it really fits the bill.....since it's so rainy &
blustery here ~ I figure this will warm all of
us up!

how about snuggling up for a nice
cup of tea & a good magazine
in this comfy chair next to
that adorable fireplace.....
{ok mega run on sentence here}

just in case you missed the fireplace
at the beginning....I guess it's actually
a woodstove...

which I'm quite fond of lately ~
so cozy, no?

this cottage used to be an old flour and textile
mill!  If you can imagine this.....there was
at one time 200 tons of rubble in the middle of
this sitting room!  wow!!

this U shaped kitchen island used to be
the counter in an old candy store.....it's perfect!

This time of year always makes me yearn
for warm colors like in these red stools & the flannel throws here & there.
If you have a nice neutral backdrop this kind of
look is easy!

here's a closeup of the wood on the island....
I don't know what it
is about a wonderful patina on wood but
I just want to pet it! ha ha ;)

seriously....I do...

these counters look like soapstone?
I like the black mixed in.

so on a side note...I have to use picasa web albums
to post pics now....anyone else?
Ok...just curious!

cute sewing machine!

another side note....mine died....yep ~ died & buried!
so amidst all the other things going on, I've been
searching for & found a new machine.....
yay!

there are actually quite a few
old singers out there....I didn't get one, but
was tempted because I have heard they are
real work horses!

{yet, one more sidenote....you know google ads?  well you know
they scan your post for content to see what to advertise...
so anyway I'm just sitting here wondering if they will
advertise, um coffins due to my "dead & buried" comment....
or maybe horse gear?  saddles & such??
or maybe mill stuff???
just wondering......;)

ok back to our regular scheduled (well not so regular you could argue...)
program....}

more wood patina...yummy...
and books.....yum.
love books...
love books & chairs together....
I could sit in a bookstore and browse
through books for HOURS....

I honestly cannot believe Thanksgiving
is in less than 2 weeks!
yikes!
{yes technically another random side note....um..yeah.}

isn't that bed amazing? and
more floors to drool over look at...

someday I will have a tub like this....
what a perfect little bathroom....

well it's time for me to get back to work~
hope you all have a wonderful day!

next post is something along the lines
of "chair escapades"
having to do with craigslist.....
you can't believe it....

anyway ~ talk soon!

xo,

Shellagh

Thanks for all the lovely photos of this beautiful home and all the lovelies.

Yes, Blogger's new photo loading is a pain! And, they said it was supposed to make it easier! LOL.

Lovely post...beautiful photos. BTW...I use Live Writer to write and upload posts to Blogger. I just insert the photos directly from my computer. Then I edit at Blogger to add tags...although you can add labels through Live Writer also. Just a thought for those of you frustrated with Blogger's "easier" way. :-)

You are on a roll today, Shellagh...so funny!! I love these images. To think this cozy home was once a mill. Now that is a big clean up job!! Baking bread is a huge clean up job for me!! Love all the images.

Sorry about your machine. I hope you like your new one and are back up making your beautiful creations!

Janie

Hi there- GORGEOUS pictures! Everything looks so inviting and cozy and I LOVE it!! Thanks for sharing- I haven't switched to the new blogger yet... but it already takes me a looooong time to load my pics... Sometimes when I do a post, I swear just getting the pics loaded(half the time they don't even load and I have to start over) and put into the correct spots takes what seems like hours! Let me know if you find a better way! :)

Well hello stranger! I've missed your awesome posts!
So I'm glad this is another good one...I LOVE LOVE LOVE this cottage. I guess red is the color right now. I'm going to be bold and step out of myself and add some red this winter. I love it all throughout this house. I saved every one of these pictures. I would do anything to live in a quirky home with so much history...
Hurry up with your next post - I can't wait to see what you're up to with a CL chair!
Hope all is well!

That house is the most droolworthy one I've see in a very long time. Wow. Thanks for the inspiration!

And I'm with you on the new blogger photo uploader. I really don't like it. Each blog post takes twice as long and that is not helpful at all. I'm hoping they work the issues out. Maybe if all of us complained?

You are way too funny! Love all the eye candy. I'm overwhelmed today at the thought of Thanksgiving around the corner. I have 40 coming to my house so no pre Christmas decorating for me! Awwww shucks.
Anyhow love your little post today very fun!

From rubble to that place? Amazing what some manage to do. Sorry to hear about your sewing machine. I have 3 but only one has a zig zag stitch built in. I love my Singer 301 even without zig zag.

Ahhh soo gorgeous! I didn't even know blogger had changed how to upload the pictures. I suggest downloading Windows Live Writer, it's REALLY simple, free and gives you so much more control over the layout and look of your blog, particularly the pictures. :)

What a wonderful home you've shown us. i grew up in Washington stare and we always had a wood burning stove. It made the house so cozy.
I'm still having problems uploading photos with blogger too. It's a real drag!

Hey Shellah,
Great post today...I've really enjoyed your pics. I'm in the hospital for my second round of chemo, so it's pretty boring in here. Thank God for blogs to entertain me!

Hope all is well with your and your family.

Okay that must have taken forever to load all those photos! I have given up on my last three posts as my issue is blogger keeps rotating half my photos and posting them sideways, sooo frustrating! Thankfully I can look at all your nice right-way-up photos!
I'm with you on the weather, cold and dreary and dark so early, trying to think "cosy" and not "drab ol' winter"!!

Shellagh, if you're using a pc Windows Live writer is a free blogger program that makes blogging so much easier...it also uses Picasa storage.(I added more for $5) I wouldn't be blogging if I didn't use Live Writer.
It is a free program!!!

I am just cracking up here. I STRUGGLED with BLOGGER for about 2 weeks - ONE PHOTO AT A TIME! I had to buy extra storage . . . and then POOF. One day all was well again. Now I can upload as many pictures as I want, just like we used to. I don't know what they are doing but I hope you get yours fixed too! So many weird things going on with them lately . . . SHEESH!
I do love your photos. I wish I could just find a beat-up little old house that I could just PLAY with. Doesn't that sound fun? Room by room, money is no object! (riiiiiiight!) any how, it's good to dream.
I haven't liked woodburning stoves until I saw the one above! Usually you can't see that much of the fire, but that one has such a nice wide window - I'm likin' it!
Thanks for sharing!
have a wonderful weekend! Karen

Hey girl! I am using
the old Blogger {I think?}
since I got P&H running in
April. I do know that I
had to buy extra storage
space on Picasa for uploading
pics.....WHERE do you find
the time to search for these
gorgeous properties! The
library speaks to me.....love it.
Any pillow inspirations, yet,
for Christmas? I'm still resisting
"The Barn" in hopes that you'll
do your own version of And to All
a Goodnight : ) Hope you are
staying cozy out there....It's
snowing like crazy here, today!

Gorgeous. Did I miss where this house was? Front of it looks like a French Mas. LOVE those floors, the burgundy leather chair...the counters. Could they be concrete? Our neighbor put in some yummy black concrete THICK counters. Can't wait to do that in a home.

I love the house you shared in this post. The wood counter in the kitchen is beautiful. We are thinking about some wood in our kitchen, it would not have the patina like this home. I live in the wet dreary Northwest (not complaining, just stating facts) also so this home is sure warm and cozy to me.

Oh, I could move into that Mill house and feel comfortable. So soothing.
I know what you mean about loading pictures with blogger. It's driving me crazy.
You sure have it figured out with all the pictures on this post. I don't know how to use another program, but will have to do something.

Shellagh,
Gosh I feel like I've been away forever! I do lurk but don't always have time to leave a comment. Blogger issues...your not alone. I used to post 3 times a week. Now I'm lucky to get out 1! It is harder! I need to do Jodies tutorial & see how she posts in livewriter. She says it's easier. Love your pillow tutorial. I bought that citri stuff after reading your blog awhile back but I've had bad luck with it. I cannot get a clear image. It looks very faded, ghost-like. Your pillows are awesome. Love your cool goodwill mantle too! You find great stuff girl. Lisa
