~master re-do sneak peaks~

Hello there bloggy friends!

As most of you know, I've been in the midst

of re-doing our "master" bedroom

~*~

we yanked out the carpet over Christmas break
we installed fir planks shortly thereafter
we sanded

(oh yeah, hubby went deaf  sanding while I was....um...blogging......)

we varnished...we painted....
then after 2 long weeks of sleeping smack dab in the

~middle~

of our bonus room aka:  tv room, computer room, kids room, play room, romper room......you get the idea....."fish bowl"

we really needed to get back in our room really enjoyed our time with
the whooooole family each night......

.....we finally moved back in....hooray.....

I've been putting it together a little bit at a time,
trying to use what I have &
save some $$$
so instead of making you all wait forever....
I thought I'd share as I go along...

I had this little dresser waiting patiently for me
sitting in my garage....
and
since I'm going for lots of whites/creams etc...
....I moved her in.

(she still needs a little work, like another knob & sanding etc..but for now it's in)

the vintage window that was above our bed
tin flower bucket w/ some dried flowers
a vintage clock
a pewter bowl to hold jewelry

and

it looks so cute!

(my camera just doesn't do it justice, but I so love the "look")

ewwww please do not look at that nasty orangy brown door....ugh....
next on the list.....

whaddaya think?
you like?

next....bedside table...

~*~

I had this cute little chest of drawers
that one day a few years ago.....
....I decided to tear apart....

one might say one too many episodes of HGTV!!

I took out the drawers
I tore out the insides
I killed it
I think I can safely blame "Design on a dime"

{I won't even tell you that this was an antique...no that would be too embarrassing....yikes....can't believe I did that.....}

I wanted a curtain instead.

so...

a curtain made from a sweet little vintage pillowcase is now in place

cute?
I am sooo in love with this sort of thing
shabby romantic
that's me

~*~
Ok..question..do you like the accessories on the first pic of
the bedside table?
 (above)
~or~
(below)
~or~
 the picture under this picture....
let me know your fav!!!
 {apparently I am complete unable to make a decision.......smiles}

a couple items I stole from my etsy shop....
a couple shabby ol' frames that were buried in a closet....

reused the same lamp...

here's a little close up of the trim on the curtain
....so sweet

oh yeah,  the mattelasse cover found at Goodwill!
~yum~

So, I'm going to make a dust ruffle w/ cream linen & make it all drapey ya' know?

almost forgot hubby's side...
he's like...you are not putting the roses on my side???

what???

me???

do that??

no..... it was more like:

"oh honey, come on! you can live with that right??? it is NO reflection
on your manhood!!"

like I said once before.....poor guy...living w/ a house full of girls....
I told him he could hang up a football jersey & his hunting knife if he wanted.....

I'm thinking about using this old door for our headboard...
or just leave it where it is?

I know..... I desperately need some kind
of headboard fast!!
&
 major pillow revamping!!

cute little shabby chair w/
vintage little girl's dress

another question for you.....does she have a place in here?
I really love her, but not so sure about it.

what do you think?

Sadie isn't sure....

~*~

So, that's it for now....

What's next on the re-do list:

1) drop cloth curtains (yep, I'm jumping on that 'best idea ever' bandwagon)
2) sisal or sea grass rug
3) figure out something above our bed
possible ideas:
vintage door as headboard (shown above),
huge old window w/ black & white family photos (on hand),
drapey fabric swag,
or make a fabric covered/upholstered headboard (plywood on hand),
 or ??
4) a few other wall hangings
5) lots of pillows (crisp white to go w/ the cream), and a little burlap or grain sack or hemp....
5) big fat cozy throw w/ lots of texture for bed
6) and of course painting or replacing the ghastly orangey brown doors....

I'll keep you posted!!

Thanks for coming by!

your list looks like my list! did you receive my email about the bloggy stuff?

Oh, I like set up #1 on your nightstand.

I have a dresser very similar to your white one.

Love your door, actually the whole room is coming together quite wonderfully!

Your bedroom is looking so beautiful. That curtain you made for the chest adds such a soft touch. I vote YES for using that fabulous door as a headboard - at least until you find something equally as fabulous. All the best, Lori

Hi Shellagh,

Love what you are doing with the b-room. What if you left the door where it is and hung that lady painting above the bed alongside a grouping of mirrors (instead of a headboard)? Just a thought. The puppy is perfect, of course.

Hi Shellagh,
I absolutely love everything that you have done. It's all so romantic cottage chic.
I love the dresser with the old window and the second picture of your nightstand is my favorite. It looks more balanced. I really like decorating with frames. Yummy!
Your room is going to be everything you dreamed of and more.

I would go with either #2 of #3 on the bedside table. But I am a more is more kind of girl. Yes to the door as your headboard! It would look fabulous. The room looks wonderful.

Hey Shellagh...you've been a busy gal...it all looks great. Okay, so I like #2 dresser, minus the smaller picture (or paint it white).

I love the door as a headboard. You know, turquoise is the "in" color for 2010! Especially with that wonderful patina of your door. A pillow or two in a matching color would be great on the bed too. Does any of the vintage fabric you won have that great blue/green color?

This is so much fun to 'advise'?? others on their decor. I think it's easier to 'see' what to do for others than for ourselves. I certain do appreciate your expertise and advise.

Looking forward to seeing the final...or at least the first final..LOL Surely, it will be ever-changing.

door for headboard. Before I even read your post, just looked at the pics, that was what I was thinking. "She should put that door as her headboard!" :)

I like pic #1 on the bedside table.

But I *LOVE* it all! Wow, you've got a lot of great stuff to work with. I really like that door where it is, but I'd also like it as a headboard, too. Decisions, decisions. ;-)

I am jealous, boy my bedroom is awful!! Can I say that I dont like the picture (nice pic, but) with your room- wrong colours or is it just the photo? The colours are too 'warm'.Everything else seems to be such a softer gentle patina. Love! the door though, try propping it behind hubs nightstand. Also try the tall thin frame behind the gold one instead of in front. Keep it nearer to the lamp to get that triangular shape working.
Thats enough from me... Hope you dont mind my suggestions :)
LOVE your matellasse throw :) stunning find.

Looking fab, have you thought about an old twirley iron farm gate for a head board to go with the window/door. Sounds odd I know but I love this look and not quite as heavy as wood, or you could even use a piece of shabby twirley security grill, mounted on wall. Love the painting of the girl, maybe she needs a frame revamp in a creamy white and pic up some of her yellow tones in some cushions or flowers, cheers Katherine

Shellagh,
Ok, I'm not going to read the 27 comments before me or I won't leave this. It's probably already been said but...my opinion. I'm NUTS for the little dresser with the tin & alarm clock. (is that the one in your etsy shop? I almost bought it yesterday). I love the door, what about mounting it above the bed and attaching a piece of old door jam or molding as a ledge. On that put frame-less old mirrors with the silver showing thru. Maybe a little chippy white frame too. Chandy over the middle. Okay, you asked LOL. I am in love with the room. Mine needs it sooo bad. 4 year old triplets, can you imagine what it looks like? Horror! Love it all. Lisa

I love both of the tabletop vignettes you came up with. that door would be awesome as your headboard. I also think a fabric covered headboard with a nailhead trim would look awesome.
We have a Doxie too. Love your Sadie.

Hi Shellagh,
I love the bedroom makeover. Thanks for stopping by, and I love both your post about the slipcovers. I think both kinds of slipcovers (piped and unpiped) always look good. Go to Potterybarn they now have unpiped (go figure). As far as the nightstand I like the first pic, and I think the lovely old door would make a great headboard. Love little Sadie.

Hi Shellagh!
Sweetie I am so sorry it's taken me this long to come over and thank you for the sweet award. Shame on me! I've been really busy with so many things, my good manners fell by the wayside. I love your bedroom. It looks so serene. My personal fav for the bedside table is the last pic. I love layering stuff. AND I think the idea of that door for the headboard is wonderful! Turn it on it's side and anchor it to the wall. It would be fabulous! It's time for a makeover in my bedroom too. You've just inspired me! I might even be able to do it just with stuff I have packed away already. (Let's hope) I can't be spending more money on just a whim! (Or can I???????) Hmmmm. Better get to work! Have a great weekend and thanks again!

Absolutely stunning!
What a beautiful, peaceful room, so tranquil.

I love all your vignettes, they are so pretty, you can't go wrong with whichever you choose. I really do like the door standing there against your wall, looks more like an old friend that way rather than a piece of furniture, but do what makes you happy!

I love the picture, and if she makes you smile, then use her in the room!
All the best,
Eileen
