~I need a little Christmas~

Good Morning bloggy friends!

weather alert......after many days of rain

rain

and more

rain.......

The sun is shining!!!

hooray!

You know that song,

"I need a little Christmas right this very moment,
candles in the window, carols at the spinet..."

that's me today....

So here's a little Christmas

~wow, huh? cozy and lovely....

love the major chippy cabinet...barely any paint left
~
you know, I have a dresser like that....
sitting out in my garage....
I removed most the paint
and was so overwhelmed
by how difficult was!!!

I stopped.

?

I feel some inspiration coming on......

moving along...

not really Christmas but there is snow.....
so it qualifies

here ya go.....more Christmas.

I really love wrapping packages
in brown packing paper.

but

have any of you ever tried to convince your children
that this is better than Frosty the Snowman paper??????

it's a losing proposition....

Now
I have a question for you!

let me 'splain first....

for the last several years

I have had my tree & a kiddy tree

you know where this is going?

So my sweet 9 year old Allie

is asking me.....

"Mom...do we have to have the fancy tree in the living room this year???"  The one that we can't put our stuff on? ouch.

seriously.....ouch....

Ok...to my defense

we have had a tree in our family room

{where we spend 90% of our time}

that the kids can decorate any way they want!

~
is this not enough?
must I relinquish the fancy tree as well?
~

ok...that was my question for you
how do all of you do this?

I know you have fabulous trees out there
vintage ornaments & all! :)

it's a little bit of a balancing act...

to create the home we love

decor & all

all a certain way, with a certain theme...

and the sweet little child.....

one of several whom you are creating the home for...

~
throws a monkey wrench into it.
~

with that little tiny question......

are we taking enough time to relish in the wonder
of Christmas seen through the eyes of a child?

I know I could definitely do a better job....

a little less stressed about the 'clean house'
a little more enjoying the mess of baking...
~
a little less worrying about the frosting going on perfect
a little more letting them "do it themselves"

even

on

the trays of cookies to give away.......

after all....
our kids don't remember how clean the house was...

they remember the love they felt

they don't remember the pile of laundry on the bed...

they remember snuggling up & watching a movie together

and the memories created...

behold our little ones....

Till Next time...

Shellagh

p.s.  I almost forgot to show you
 my latest pillow design...

ya' like it?

here's a close up of the vintage lace

the very top w/ a tiny vintage button on the pleat

and here's a picture of the back~

(if interested, the pillow is in my Etsy shop)

thanks for coming by today! xoxo

Hi Shellagh, oooh PLEASE let them put their little things on the trees they want to! I'm sure your trees are all beautiful, but something about a little old~fashioned one with homemade little ornaments and such just tugs at my heartstrings... I have trees all over my house, with things I love, really no rhyme or reason... you are right, your children will remember how fun it was to decorate their special tree... and their sweet mama who let them do it... love to you... Bisous... Julie Marie

We do two trees as well, one for me and one for the kids. The tree that I decorate goes in the living room and the "kids" tree goes in the dining room. The presents are left under the kids tree. In my defense, I get the fake tree and I let them decorate the big, real tree however they want.

I'm thinking of switching it up this year and putting their tree in the living room. Either way, isn't the important thing that there are gifts under one of the trees?!

I just had that same wrench thrown at me. I'm goin along with the kiddies on this one. Why not? At the end of the day, it'll be easier on my anyway. That's what I'M talkin' about!!!!

Love, love, love the pillow! I love all the images of Christmas you have used here in your post. It really is hard to know what to do when there are young children at home. Our tree was always decorated for the children. I loved having their sweet little handmade things all over it. Now they are grown and I love having all my own stuff on my very own tree.lol To everything there is a season...now it's my season.
Hugs,
June

Hi Shellagh!
I may be the odd man out here but I think it's only fair that you get to enjoy the tree you want too. If the kids tree is in the family room where you all spend most of your time then the kids have the "prime real estate " anyway. I look at the fancy tree as another decoration for the house. But you have to do what feels right for you! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I love all your pictures and definiely we need a little Christmas everyday! I think the kids always like having their own tree that they can decorate the way they want. My son always liked that when he was little. If he hung something on the fancy tree then I would just let it stay. You are so right about what they remember. Maybe we can all take a lesson from this.

I LOVE the new pillow. You ass such sweet details and the envelope style is my favorite.

I am with Karen. The kids have a tree and I think that is really special. You deserve to have yours, where you want it. Sometimes we give our all to our families and it leaves nothing for ourselves. That is when we start to crack a bit. Learn that lesson now!!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

growing up my mom had "the kid tree" in the basement, which I hated. I have one in my living room for my ornaments and one in the kitchen for the kids. They seem to love it, because it is their special tree. I adore your ticking pillow. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Lori

I gave up tree control a long time ago! Kids rule, and that's okay. I used to tweak it a bit, but now not even that matters. Just that it's done their way. It works too! ~ Angela

Oh, I really do understand about the tree. I don't have space for more than one big tree, and the year I dared to get a flocked one, all you-know-what broke out!

Oh girl, if I hear from my kids "I want colored lights and silver strings on the tree!" ONE MORE TIME.....I've only had one tree ever, but this year there will be two. "MY" tree and the family's tree.
Thanks for the beautiful pictures, and your pillow is amazing!

first, I want that kitchen in your blogger header........

second, this is what I'm going to do this year for Christmas: a table scape -
a ?? what?? like a Christmas scene but better.....
i'm blogging about it next week -

love the inspiration you gave me on this post btw.

When my kids were little, it was just the tree the way they wanted. Now it's how I want it but the fact that they have their own tree means you shouldn't worry. I love your pics and the pillow too! Cindy

oh yeah I want to let you know that the picture you have on this post of the mama and baby cow was painted by an artist that lives just a couple of miles down the road from me and is one of the nicest ladies you will ever meet!

Too funny, you know how much I love the decorate right??? Well, our kids are now 18 and 20 and they STILL insist on doing the tree the same tacky way every year....being bent on traditions the way they are I have no say in the matter,so to sum it all up....you will never see a photo of our tree(once its done)...do I mind, not really, will I miss my tacky tree when they are on their own....YOU BET!!!
