~a little Friday inspiration & a whole lot of jane~

hello everyone!

just a quick hi & some pretty Friday
inspiration for you!

first up.....because I wish my sewing room
looked this fabulous!!!

I don't know what I like more,
the chrome chair, the painted floors (really?;))
or the cute little trashcan......

ok, OR the darling vintage sewing machine....
OR
the little bin w/ wheels...
OR
that cute little table.  OK  I guess I love it ALL.

~*~

here's another cute little work table
now that has got to be the most awesome
 light fixture....
I'd love to find me one of those!

and because I'd love to still be sleeping in a wonderful bed such as this......
and I think I've even
posted this picture before, but is it
not worth swooning over some more?

or this one would also work for me.....

look at those awesome floors.....
and I do believe that is a big-o pole
right the middle of the room....
ya see it there?
built in coat rack!

~*~

now you weren't expected any rhyme or reason
from me today were you?

good ~ cuz I don't have any.

how about this living room?
I kinda like it.
what about the palm leaf in the vase?
hmmmm....I guess it gives it kind of a beach
feel ~ ok....

I like the large-ness of the coffee table...
I do not have a coffee table
~gasp~
and it's getting quite annoying not having
something fabulous to arrange all the cool
stuff I find on.....
{I am certain that was a huge run-on sentence but I'm lettin'
it ride today....;)}

~*~

ok new subject.....
"what I've been watching while working on
pillows & dust ruffles......"

do you recognize this cottage?

I have watched sooooooooooooooooooo
many Jane Austen movies in the last couple weeks...

the cottage is from Sense & Sensibility,
the Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet
version.

love that movie.....if you have not,
for some unimaginable reason, seen it
go get it today!!
you don't even want to know how many times
I've watched it.

but I also like to watch the BBC version
with David Morrissey, Janet Me Teer & Hattie Morahan.  Also very good ~ 3 full hours of goodness.

and watch
my beloved Jane Eyre
almost 4 hours of fabulous-ness

and of course Pride & Prejudice
6 hours of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett....

Mr. Ticking and Toile much prefers
the Kiera Knightly version.....
well, yes, I like it too, but it's toooooooo short!!
but the proposal at the end is magnificent.....

and the music is totally totally totally
amazing~ in fact I had the soundtrack on my blog
when I firsted started ~ because it is so beautiful
I could listen to it non-stop.

let's see what else I've watched or have tried
to watch........

well I've tried to watch many of these
but really have a hard time getting into it.

I was about 2/3rd's the way thru
Pride & Prejudice
{it's at least 4-6 hours of very bad acting}

and Mr. T & T turned it off saying it was
the worst EVER.

{just so ya know, he isn't all huffy like that...he just
knew I wasn't loving it while I was sort of watching it....;) }

I couldn't disagree....I just wanted to see if I could
get thru it....

I am now trying to get thru some Charles Dickens
"Bleak House"

and it is also 6 hours.....Dickens is hard
to focus in on, but I'm working on it.

I should have bought the Gillian Anderson
version, but $6 was a lot less than $30!

I watched this too,
an old standby...

which is great ~  but ...um....well....
it's not an 18th century love story....
.............is there anything else?

well yes....I do have an open mind to other
genre's.  I also watched this....

Yes, I know technically it's kinda the same genre as all the Jane Austen's..... but, it's pretty good too.  Have you seen it?
I'd love to get your opinion on it.

~*~

well I hope you all have a wonderful weekend,
if I've missed a super fabulous movie you think
I must see, please let me know!!

xoxo,

Shellagh

  3. I especially like that sewing room. I watched "Sense and Sensibility" for the umpteenth time just last week. Every time I watch it, I think how smart and clever Emma Thompson is for having written such a fantastic script. I love her! Another favorite of mine is "Anne of Green Gables." Makes me boo-hoo every time!

  5. That sewing room is amazing, I think the metal chair is the best part.

I've seen all of the movies you listed except the last 2. I will have to go check those out. I also tried watching that Jane Austen series and just couldn't do it...the acting was horrible. My favorite is P&P with Colin Firth. Even my dh likes to sit and watch it with me. *LOVE*

I just DVRed it the other day and I plan to make my 11yr old son watch it with me. I wonder what he will think? :)

  13. My favorite room was the sewing room and I think I am still drooling over that chair! :) As far as great movies, I too am a huge fan of the Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley. One movie that I did not see listed, that I also really enjoy is Little Women- the 1994 version with Susan Sarandon, Wynona Ryder, Claire Danes and Christian Bale. Hope you have an extraordinary weekend!

  26. YUP...each and every one of those snappies, are definitely "swoon worthy"...and I have an on going love affair with each and every one of those delicious movies from that truly romantic era. I do however, find it difficult to concentrate on the plot, as I am drooling over the decor.

  28. Jane Austen ... Pride and Prejudice is my favouite ... the longest version with Colin Firth is the best, but the Kiera Knightly version is excellent if you want a quick fix.

  29. uuhh, how much coffee did you have before you wrote this post??? Love it though!!

  30. I'm with you on the Jane Austen movies. As far as favorite versions go, I think I tend to like the one I see first the best. For Pride and Prejudice that was with Keira K. and for Sense & Sensibility it was the Emma T./Kate W. version. But you failed to mention my favorite - Persuasion, I like the BBC version with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hines the best.

  31. Hi there Shellagh, great pics today! I love them all! Its funny, I have been seeing a lot of the palm fronds around lately! I dont have a coffee table either; not allowed!! my husband hates them; think it had something to do with him having an acciedent on one as a little boy! I am using a big ottoman instead which is handy to put stuff on. And I have spied a very very nice tufted ottoman with carved woodden legs. Just have to save my pennies!!

  32. Just the kind of eye candy I needed this morning. I love those first 2 pictures especially. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

  33. I'm a huge Jane Austen fan...both in books and on screen! But I must say when it comes to P&P films, I much prefer Colin Firhh as Darcy. Had he and Kiera Knightly been paired together, it would've been perfection! And Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorite novels. Haven't seen the film. Better do that!

Came here through ny sweet friend Morning T.

    Happy Sunday!

is a movie for you that I like:
    Ladies in Lavender. I really
loved it and think you will, too.

  40. Mansfield Park is a wonderfully done film. I also adore Emma. As much as I love all of the Austen films, my absolute fav is the BBC mini-series of "The Buccaneers" (Edith Wharton). They did it as a mini-series and it's available on dvd. I highly recommend it and feel certain you will love it!

    Cheers!

  41. Nice to know that there's someone out there as nutty as me! I have to own every version of every Jane Austen story! And I never get tired of them! I have seen the S & S with Hugh & Emma a million times and I still cry at the end...the newer version is really good too! The newest version of Emma is great! And the latest version of Persuasion is AMAZING!!!! Have you seen Lost in Austen? I loved it! I must admit, I gave up on Bleak House...but Daniel Deronda, I loved! {yes...I am a BBB addict!}

    m ^..^

  43. What a great post. I love these movies too..particularly Daniel Deronda - it was such an intelligent, multi layered film. And Sense & Sensibility is wonderful, I've watched it several times. I must watch Jane Eyre, I can't believe I haven't yet! Have a lovely Sunday..Rachaelxx

  44. If you like Jane Austin movies, you should watch BBC Persuation. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114117/

  45. Not romances, but the same time period, and your husband will love them--and you probably will, too: Horatio Hornblower.

I love the sewing room. I saw a beautiful tutorial on covering a sewing room chair like that one--somewhere (sadly, I don't know where!). I want to do mine as well but I hadn't figured out what color. The red is stunning. That photo also makes me want to change out the curtains for white sheers; they are beautiful! My machine sits under my window like that, too.

  46. First visit her, but I must say you have WONDERFUL taste in movies. :) You've listed some of my absolute favorites!
S&S is wonderful and are all of Jane's stories. I am a huge Dickens fan and am reading Bleak House right now. Love it! I have both versions of the movies. The old one is fine, but I did like the newer one even more. Do check out Little Dorrit, if you can. The new version has Mathew McFayden and is wonderful. I read that in July and bugged my Sweetheart to get the movie. The recent Nicholas Nickleby is good, if you aren't tired of Dickens. My goal is to finish reading all of his stories this year. Lofty goal as most of them run 1200 pages. :) Also, some of the other suggestions--Persuasion, Daniel Deronda and Horatio Hornblower really are delightful as well.
You have a lovely blog. Off to visit the archives!

  47. You should also add"Lost in Austen" to your list of movies. It's a BBC production. I saw it on Netflix and it was really cute.
