~what's on the "LIST"

Happy Monday everyone!!

How was your weekend?

Mine was great!
~ with the small ittty bitty
exception of....
the worst migraine of my life

so yes, lucky me suffered through this from 4:40am
to 12:30pm yesterday morning....goodness me,
wouldn't wish it on anyone.

but!
I am feeling great today! yay!!!
I'm waiting for the fog to clear....
and the sun to show up and I'll be heading out
for a run.....

I wanted to share with you my list and what's on it......

for me 2012 is all about finishing....
yep....finishing our house....
it's long
it's scary
it's overwhelming
but it's reality....
and I'm ready!

I'm not going to make you all tired
by giving you the whole thing
cuz it is just Monday
and you need to feel uplifted & inspired
not exhausted & disturbed by my long as
humanly imagineable list!!

but here's what's on top of it:

1) replace doors upstairs

we have many antique doors sitting in the garage,
taking up valuable man-cave space,
waiting for us to install
{well strip, and re-finish and fit
to our door jams}

up until now....it was too
overwhelming
to me to even think about

but not now...
now is the time....
to finish....

****please excuse this interruption***
where we'll be testing Mrs. Ticking & Toile's
good mood & patience today....

the toilet has just overflowed, there's an inch of water
in the bathroom, it has gone into the
hallway, onto her beautiful plank floors, and under the refrigerator....

and Mrs. T & T will (while attempting to soak up
the water) spill melted red wax all down the wall
and onto her cute shabby table, onto the floor & down the
hallway.....

~*~

where was I?
yes, what you read is true....
um...how's my mood?
well, slightly dampened...
s   l  i  g  h  t  l  y...
it's all good.  problem fixed~
water cleaned up, waxed cleaned
up ~ just a minor diversion~
;)
sheesh.

ok...
we were talking about doors.....

I'm thinking with the "replacing the doors"
portion of my list~ I'd really like to strip
them & go for the natural, worn, slightist
bit of paint left over look~ like these....
don't you love this?

here's another example

I love how the worn doors look against crisp
white door frames...yes?

you like??

lots of prep work to do...
a little resizing to do...
door knobs to find & buy
{anyone got any they'd like to sell?????;) }
etc... etc...
wish me luck!!

Got anything on your list??
got a major focus for this year??

do tell! :)

Have a wonderful day!!

xoxo,

Shellagh

  1. Oh, Shellagh-That sounds like a grand plan...a bit job to be done. You will love it when they are all in place. Are they all different doors then? Any transom doors in there?

My big project is to sort, dump, sell, purge....purge...purge... We are probably going to sell in the Spring-xo Diana

  7. I love the look of the old doors with chippy paint! What's the use of having beautiful old doors if they're to be painted and stained to look like new? They have such character! Have fun. I haven't figured out which item on my mondo long list is at the top but I'm thinking finishing setting up and organizing my studio/office is is way up near the top! Looking forward to more updates! 10. So glad you overcame the migraine! My mind has been spinning since we took down the Christmas stuff. With the crazy year I had in 2011, I'm really wanting to focus on my health, family and home.....you know I have 'lots of organizing to do'!

Soooo's I got up this morning and looked around to see what I could do since I was feeling creative and decided to cut down an old bed rail to make it a column. Well, about half way through cutting it with the large, heavy skill saw...the handle broke into pieces...right in my hand. Geez, I'm thankful I still have all my body parts! After several attempts to finish the cut with various other apprentices, I gave up, left the mess in the carport and came inside. Long story short, nothing accomplished today....but there's always tomorrow.

    Hugs,
    Susie

Oh, and yes, yes, yes....love the striped doors. I've been pinning a few pics with that look and I'm loving it.

  12. I'm so glad you're feeling better, Shellagh! How was your run? I hit the treadmill today for 45 mins! Woo hooo!! Wish I could'ave run outside...but it was 20 degrees this morn. Too cold for this wimp. lol!

Hubby and I put on new cabinet hardware today. Yay! Vintage nickel knobs and cup pulls. THEN he actually fixed the drippy kitchen faucet. THEN he measured to build more shelves for my craft crap in the basement next to my table. (I wonder what he did wrong that he's trying to make up for it....?? lol!)

Your doors are going to look absolutely gorrrgeous, girl! Love the idea of them being partially stripped. That looks fabulous next to white trim. ♥ Verrrrry Nordic!

    Hugs ~~~

  13. Love the look of the old doors. They remind me of things I would see in the Jeanne D'Arc magazine (my new favorite magazine). Would love to do that in my home. Looking forward to updates on your project

  14. Love your post, you sure are funny :) I love, love, love those old doors in the photos. If that is what you have in mind, I can't wait to see it! My to-do list is long, all "wants" and no "needs". I want to paint most of all but many reasons why I haven't yet. I can't wait to see your finished lists and what you have to show us!

  16. I love the look of those doors....
everyone has lists, and some lists have lists....
Our lists have grown again....I think they multiply at night....
We are doing our bathroom (1959 house) and it's interesting how doing that suddenly becomes other rooms or flooring or.....
    isn't it....see they multiply...
Sorry about your migraine.....keep up the good work and keep those pictures coming.
(while you are at it...don't forget to check my blog...)

  19. Love the stripped doors! They look absolutely stunning against the white frames. My "list" for 2012 is to get my room put together. I moved my dad in with us in March and gave him my room. I took the all season porch for my room. I always knew I would turn it into a bedroom. I have been living for months in there with boxes to be unpacked, items needing to be hung, walls needing to be finished painted, etc....My "list" is to definitely finish my room ;)

  20. That first pic is one of my absolute favs - I refer to it whenever I need a lift, because it is just my style! :)
The to-do list for our tiny cottage is a mile long, and we're doing everything with cash, so it takes us longer to accomplish the big items. So I mostly stick with the smaller things. I want to paint the French armoire and farm table this year and come up with some more art for the walls. Slow and steady - in a couple of years it should be quite a cutie!
Wishing you a happy day after that whole plumbing issue)!!!

  21. You crack me up!!! The over-flow...the wax....that's exactly how my life goes! But it's funnier when it happens to someone else and they tell about it! I'm determined to finish projects this year. This old house is always needing work...but I'm going to make myself accomplish my goals!

  32. I actually came back to look at your door pictures. They're lovely!

I have stripped 15 antique doors. I used Citristrip to bubble the paint off most of them to raw wood. Some, however, resisted every type of stripper I could find, so I set them in the yard for a year. Chipppppeeeee!

Anyway, I thought I'd give you an amazing flat, matte finish for your doors. Gotta seal them somehow. Pick up some Paint Base. Exterior, Latex, Flat, Dark (4 or 5) base. Pre-tint, it goes on white, but dries clear. It dries so matte, you'll have a hard time figuring out where you put it. It also seals on chips. LOVE the stuff. Love my doors, love the naturally aged (vs. painted!) condition.

I'm going to read a bit more here to see if you have made any progress. Really enjoy your blog!
