~the cat's meow~

hello my bloggy friends!

what a week or 2!!
our family went on an 1800 mile road trip
last week and into this week to attend our
2nd oldest daughter's college graduation...

AND in order to be economical we took
a little car instead of our big SUV......

um....3 kiddos in the back seat of a small car
for 1800 miles.....

......well you might be able to guess how
that went......ha ha....

but we did celebrate her graduation, and
along the way saw some beautiful countryside~
and made more memories :)

I thought I would share with you this
darling little boutique...
no, I wasn't so lucky to visit it along the way ~ because it's located
in Sarasota, Florida...

It's owned by Mark & Susie Holt.

Both their store and home have been
featured in countless magazines
and you'll quickly see why!

everything shabby, chippy, frenchy & lovely!!

love the textured walls...anyone who's been
following me for awhile knows how
I love my textured walls.....

and a sink dropped into a vintage cabinet....
yummmmmy.....
on the to-do list....pronto...

chippy cabinets, chicken wire....
true love....

chandys, mirrors & pillows, oh my!

loving the aqua mattress cover and
the beautiful iron bed!

I would be perfectly happy
moving right into their store!

they also have an online boutique you can visit

I think this deck might be part of their home...
gorgeous setting...

I would like to thank all of you for your
tremendous support of my new online store!

I've been busy with orders & sewing up a storm!
I'll be adding new products in the next few days so
be sure to check back soon to see what's new!

Have a fabulous weekend girls!

~what's blooming II ~

hello there everyone!

NW weather.....80 and perfect....
don't hate me....
just remember it rained for 9 months
before this fabulous-ness ;)

I thought I'd show you a little
of what's blooming around the garden....

I found this little white basket
at a little shop nearby
& thought it would be fun by the
front door filled w/ yummies
from the garden....

{I do realize this basket could use a bow....yep....it could...}

so I gathered a little this & that

a few purple coneflowers....

a few coreopsis...dainty little things

and my beloved white phlox.....smells so amazing!

normally I would just go with
a big bouquet of ........gee let me think...
well....um....white flowers......hard to imagine eh?

but I was feeling like, you got all this color....
use it!

so I added a few Liatrus...which is just starting
to bloom....crazy hair day flowers ~ they are!

so what else is blooming?
well a bunch .... tons....of daisies...

white shastas....
......yellow shastas....(?)

not sure the name, but they are pale yellow
these even survived a mid-day transplant
last week! emergency uprooting....needed to install trellis....

{can you believe I haven't 'fessed up that
new project.....to all y'all?}

yeah, I was gonna show you that today, but
realized it needs just a wee bit more paint...
so next week!

more daisies in the potager
next to the chives....love those purple blooms!

my clematis is going crazy!

it's definitely serving it's purpose well....
hiding the big blue pool monstrosity....

{the kids have no grass......um,
 {remember I yanked it all out a couple years ago?? }
......in the back garden so
it was the least I could do...let them have a pool!! ;) }

the creeping thyme lines a path next to the potager
it smells so amazing & just keeps spreading....

I love this little aqua chair....
I paid $4 for it at a yard sale....

I love the chippy paint & it's weathered look....

I have so much more to show you,
but I'll save the rest for next week!

right now, I need to get back to work
sewing!!

thanks so much for all your enthusiasm
& excitement for my new shop!

Click Here to check it out!

I can't believe how much your energy
spurs my creativity!!

I'll be adding more products just as soon
as my little hands can create each sample!

Talk soon!

~cottage color~

hello friends!

As per Ticking and Toile tradition....
.....the weather....

we had a nice break from the heatwave last week...
it was in the 70's all weekend & up till today...

today it's high 80's ... ahhhh....love it!

I came across this fun, colorful cottage....
and thought I would share it with you...
the homeowner also owns an antique store
& has a wonderful gift of display~

this is Kristi Stratton, owner of Hunt & Gather
in Minneapolis, MN

her style is so fun & full of color...
I love that she uses such unconventional
pieces in her kitchen & throughout her home
~you won't find anything out of a bigbox store here!

and I am loving the wood on the walls.....
I do believe this is my latest obsession.....

~note to self~
.....must put wood on my walls....

oooooooh....I just noticed I have the same
trophy thingy!

this is her pantry....she is very creative...
wouldn't  you say???

I wonder how long mine could look
 that neat & tidy???

this is the cutest pink cabinet....

she really has a way with mixing all the colors
together....she mixes pink, yellow, blue & green
and the results look fantastic....

I like that she grounds everything in white....
white floors & trim....

fun place huh??

~*~

well....the last 4 days around here have been
pretty crazy.....I've felt like a live in nurse....

we picked up our 12 & 14 year old daughters
from girls camp this last Saturday and

Madi...

was dehydrated & suffering from heat exhaustion
{remember the weather was hovering around 100
here last week....and where the camp was as well}

she hadn't drank much of anything for a day or 2....
in extreme heat & while being very physically active....

so she was very ill....we pumped her full of
gatorade & popsicles & water of course
all Saturday...

by Sunday morning she was "flushed" a symptom
of dehydration that causes your whole body to be bright red.....and puffy..... quite puffy....and had a temperature from 99 to 103 back down to 99 by nighttime.....

we kept a very close eye on her
& nursed her back to health

today she is pretty much 80 - 90% back to normal......
thank God!  nothing like a little excitement.....to make a mom worry....

and today I'm cleaning sheets {that would be our sheets}
our comforter...
and our "flowy & romantic" dust ruffle....

yep....it's all been christened by the sickie...

~note to self~
.....do not let sick children into my bed......;)

well I'm off to swim with my girls.....

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Shellagh

~beachy Jane~

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Can you believe the temperature
is heading up to 98 degrees
in the rainy NW????

I can't!
it's a record for this time of year.....
.....but I'm NOT complaining :)

I love Jane Coslick~
she designs vacation cottages....
her work is so fun & whimsical...

I thought I would share with you an
amazing "before & after"
of a little cottage she redesigned....

you know we always have to start with the ugly
before you get to look at the pretty!

~before~

~after~

scary kitchen huh?
you just gotta love the yellow floors
with the dark brown cabinets
yummmmmmy.....;)

you might like this just a bit more....
I love the island....and the wood on the ceiling....
she is all about wood in your home....
on the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling...

I would love to find a cute screen door like
this for my pantry.....
too darling....
and are you just loving all the wood on the walls and everywhere????
it's sooooo awesome!!

here's the hallway before shot~
kinda dark & dreary wouldn't you say??

k, more wood on the ceilings and walls....
....love it!

~now wouldn't Mr. T & T love me if I brought home a buncha
wood off craigslist & showed him this picture???~

~pause~
~ I am loving the painted floors (surprised anyone??)....still loving that idea for our upstairs.....~

did I hear you ask when I might possibly finish such a thing?
well....I'm working on it....well not really....more like staring at it....
more like not wanting to jump into a huge project right now ~
especially w/ Mr. T & T busy all day job searching....
he's a little grouchy right now he's a little preoccupied....

anyhoo....let's get back to dreaming....
so do you suppose one would just get some
1 x 8's or something and start nailing them to the ceiling???
hmmmmm........you know that's actually what I
was up to many months ago when I picked up the free paneling off craigslist.....then discovered it would work well for flooring......click here for that story...

there's a lot to love about this room.....
the whispy dust ruffle....
the white everywhere...
and I love the pale blue? on the floors....

now moving on to the fabulous bathroom~
come right thru that
 door & follow me!

um....white slipcovered chair w/ ruffles anyone??

too cute huh?
of course there is a darling clawfoot tub
to soak in....

I believe this is a cottage that can be rented
if you're anywhere near Tybee Island....

how would the kiddo's like this room?

we're back downstairs now....

and out to the covered deck to enjoy a little dinner & watch the surf....

is it back to real life time yet?
no? one more? ok...

cute little dining room...
for eating dinner....
um....speaking of which....

does a family really need dinner every night?
ugh....does anyone else out there run out of
ideas????

ooooooh....bbq!  get Mr. T & T involved....;)
you know how they like to take ownership
of dinner as soon as it's being cooked outside!

one more thing I almost forgot.....

my last post on the dream garden
the owner of the garden & property, Dianne, read all the comments and was so touched....she wanted to thank you all...these are her words

"G'morning Shellagh!

My husband and I just finished reading the comments on your blog. WHOA!!

"Thanks to all of you for your beautiful comments about the garden. I'm totally humbled. (and inspired)

Hugs, Dianne"

She is such a sweetie!!
Your comments really made her day!

I hope you all stay cool
and enjoy the rest of the week!

xo,

Shellagh
