~country bath inspiration~

Happy Sunday everyone!

it's so exciting to see the S U N in the great NW!

but before I go out & enjoy it.....

I thought I would share this AMAZING picture I found......

Seriously.....I love this so much I can't stand it!!!!!

I love so much about this bathroom....
the walls, the tall basket of flowers, the tattered lace in the window,
the tin ceiling, and of course the tub.

so romantic & sweet~

I have been wanting to do this in our bathrooms for quite awhile now....

in fact, one day in the near future....you might just find a post
of mine.....'fessing up to another wild adventure.....
such as ripping out our lovely oak cabinets....and shower stall

to replace with something like this...

the bathroom adventure will likely begin with the acquisition of
a tub such as this....
preferably from craigslist....
preferably for less than $200.

If that day appears sooner rather than later...
my poor hubby will know he's in for it.

and I will also need to find a fabulous old dresser
to drop a couple sinks into....

and ideally.....(no..not ideally...I meant I will definitely have to...)
rip out the nasty linoleum that is white w/
light blue swirlies....circa 1991...gotta love it.

probably better save some of the fir flooring for the bathrooms.....

would love to find an awesome faucet or 2 like this....
and an awesome mirror to replace our builder's standby mirror.

and I know I have several little bottles to put cute
little rose blooms into...to pretty up the place....

and then maybe add a few other lovelies.....

~oh to dream~

~*~

it's too bad tubs are so heavy huh???
and it's really too bad there's so much plumbing involved....

Have a wonderful Sunday evening

&

a great start to the week!

~Potager~

OK....
today was the FIRST day
since Fall...

 that
I
actually
 stepped foot
 into my garden
 to see
 what was happening.....

you see....every year after about the beginning of September,
I go into complete "I am so sick & tired of gardening mode"
"I cannot & will not pull one more %#*!##*^ weed!!"
{such language...I'll say.....}

so here are a few front yard shots while I'm telling my story....

I just get so totally burned out by then....
that I must go on strike
for a good 3 or 4 months....
to rekindle that desire....
to make things
....b l o o m....

Ya see....
it was almost 2 years ago....
when in one of my totally out of control A.D.D.
quiet moments...
I decided....
ya know...
we really don't need grass in our backyard...
do we?

Kids, do we need grass back here??
cuz the dog just poops in it right?
and then it just gets rained on & all mushy grossness, right?
Right Mom....
they agree....

what more did I need???
Me & the hubby CErTaiNly were not
making any use of it....

So, it goes like....
Honey, we don't really need grass back here do we?
he's like.....huh?....
with that cute little look on his face...
that means something like...
"oh no...what is she thinking...."

So, he says, "well, I don't know...
what exactly did you have in mind???????"

Then I'm like...
Oh, {very casually}
I don't know....I was just thinking.....

he kinda looks at me with that same "oh crap"
look on his face...."what is she thinking...."

and there it begins....
the great quest for the
"potager" garden

and potager garden is what I did.

oh yeah, I tore out all the grass....{that is another story all of it's own}
learned all about brick laying....
and created a lovely little potager garden in our backyard.

{please don't mind all the massively overgrown squash leaves laying on the gravel....}

The only trouble is

I now have a 100ft x 30ft
flower bed!
argh!!!

{you gotta admit how massively overwhelming this is....}

and hence....my absolute disdain for weeding by September....
is it becoming more clear now??

So, let's review of few of my faults
that help contribute to my madness....

....#1 taking on too much...
#2 biting off more than I can chew...
and #3 {of a lengthy list}
 is......making humongous flower beds with
no weed control system....

{can you see all those weeds there? growing like gangbusters???}

So, this year...
I need to figure out...
a way...
to...
resolve
THIS!!!!

Even if it means
(while I still have energy at the beginning of the season....)
raking back all the mulch
and pea gravel
and
installing
weed blocker fabric stuff.

I just can't go
another summer

with my

self imposed

out
of
control

garden

that

takes
over
my

life.

So, what do all you bloggy garden girls know about this?

Any words of wisdom???
{please say yes! :o) }

{{hugs}}

Shellagh

p.s.
just want to make sure you know these pics are from last summer....not now.....right now I just have a bunch of sticks (ie:dormant perennials) growing... & a bunch of sogginess....

p.s.s.

I'm linking to Outdoor Wednesday for the first time....what timing huh?
so go on over & check it out!

~Lantlif~

I have been hoarding all these fabulous photos
as inspiration....
hiding them in my computer....
and swooning over them in my quiet hours...

and thought that maybe instead of keeping them all for myself....
that I should share them with all of you...
so you can swoon too....

Maybe you already know about this amazing woman from

but in case you don't....let me introduce you.....
her name is Annette and she lives in Sweden.....

& I am so in love with her amazing swedish rustic style!

I could literally browse her blog for hours.....

to find amazing ideas to DUPLICATE!!

I am so enamored with her use of white
and how stunning it looks.

her accessorizing is.....nothing short of...fabulous....

right?  I thought you would agree....

her ideas on thrifting & little projects
are super creative & inspiring!

I think that is part of the reason I am so obsessed with her site....

it's so fun to see another persons view on thrifting & such...
someone from half way around the world...

here's a little project she did with
some vintage pant hangers....

paint the whole thing black....

cut out a piece of black construction paper
stamp w/ cute little white stamps

add a vintage family photo
and a ribbon.....
and hang on an absolutely charming hook....

{and guess what I found the very next day, after finding this.....yep....a whole slew of them at the goodwill dumpster store!! I am going to make a few & thought I might put a few on Etsy so if you want....you can make one too!!}

and because I think you are all fabulous
& because you literally bring me joy with your sweet
comments & love.....

I'll share another to die for project of hers!!!!

you see the little tray above right??
you can pick these up very inexpensively thrifting....

paint it white....add a beautiful french soap
and a few flower petals....

do you love me now???
are you ready to run right out & find a tray
and some french soap???
holy moses ~ I am!!

Ok...want some more????
you will love this too!

plain little tray....seen a million of 'em thrifting...
not terribly exciting until...

you paint it white....and display vintage salt and pepper shakers on it!
~*~
OK.....ONE more to get you completely chomping at the bit to make some cool stuff on this wintery day....

fairly non-descript candle holder & tray....

until you glue them together....and....

add a candle w/ a little wire holding a little crown...
nestled in a bed of greens....

see what I mean??

and if you are loving all this, as I am....

guess what?
she has a book coming out!!!!
soon!!!!

so after you get back from the thrift stores...

or I guess maybe right now since you
are still on the computer.....;o)

get yourself a cup of herbal tea &
head over to her site for some serious yummy eye candy....

have a fabulous, inspiring week!!!

~master re-do sneak peaks~

Hello there bloggy friends!

As most of you know, I've been in the midst

of re-doing our "master" bedroom

~*~

we yanked out the carpet over Christmas break
we installed fir planks shortly thereafter
we sanded

(oh yeah, hubby went deaf  sanding while I was....um...blogging......)

we varnished...we painted....
then after 2 long weeks of sleeping smack dab in the

~middle~

of our bonus room aka:  tv room, computer room, kids room, play room, romper room......you get the idea....."fish bowl"

we really needed to get back in our room really enjoyed our time with
the whooooole family each night......

.....we finally moved back in....hooray.....

I've been putting it together a little bit at a time,
trying to use what I have &
save some $$$
so instead of making you all wait forever....
I thought I'd share as I go along...

I had this little dresser waiting patiently for me
sitting in my garage....
and
since I'm going for lots of whites/creams etc...
....I moved her in.

(she still needs a little work, like another knob & sanding etc..but for now it's in)

the vintage window that was above our bed
tin flower bucket w/ some dried flowers
a vintage clock
a pewter bowl to hold jewelry

and

it looks so cute!

(my camera just doesn't do it justice, but I so love the "look")

ewwww please do not look at that nasty orangy brown door....ugh....
next on the list.....

whaddaya think?
you like?

next....bedside table...

~*~

I had this cute little chest of drawers
that one day a few years ago.....
....I decided to tear apart....

one might say one too many episodes of HGTV!!

I took out the drawers
I tore out the insides
I killed it
I think I can safely blame "Design on a dime"

{I won't even tell you that this was an antique...no that would be too embarrassing....yikes....can't believe I did that.....}

I wanted a curtain instead.

so...

a curtain made from a sweet little vintage pillowcase is now in place

cute?
I am sooo in love with this sort of thing
shabby romantic
that's me

~*~
Ok..question..do you like the accessories on the first pic of
the bedside table?
 (above)
~or~
(below)
~or~
 the picture under this picture....
let me know your fav!!!
 {apparently I am complete unable to make a decision.......smiles}

a couple items I stole from my etsy shop....
a couple shabby ol' frames that were buried in a closet....

reused the same lamp...

here's a little close up of the trim on the curtain
....so sweet

oh yeah,  the mattelasse cover found at Goodwill!
~yum~

So, I'm going to make a dust ruffle w/ cream linen & make it all drapey ya' know?

almost forgot hubby's side...
he's like...you are not putting the roses on my side???

what???

me???

do that??

no..... it was more like:

"oh honey, come on! you can live with that right??? it is NO reflection
on your manhood!!"

like I said once before.....poor guy...living w/ a house full of girls....
I told him he could hang up a football jersey & his hunting knife if he wanted.....

I'm thinking about using this old door for our headboard...
or just leave it where it is?

I know..... I desperately need some kind
of headboard fast!!
&
 major pillow revamping!!

cute little shabby chair w/
vintage little girl's dress

another question for you.....does she have a place in here?
I really love her, but not so sure about it.

what do you think?

Sadie isn't sure....

~*~

So, that's it for now....

What's next on the re-do list:

1) drop cloth curtains (yep, I'm jumping on that 'best idea ever' bandwagon)
2) sisal or sea grass rug
3) figure out something above our bed
possible ideas:
vintage door as headboard (shown above),
huge old window w/ black & white family photos (on hand),
drapey fabric swag,
or make a fabric covered/upholstered headboard (plywood on hand),
 or ??
4) a few other wall hangings
5) lots of pillows (crisp white to go w/ the cream), and a little burlap or grain sack or hemp....
5) big fat cozy throw w/ lots of texture for bed
6) and of course painting or replacing the ghastly orangey brown doors....

I'll keep you posted!!

Thanks for coming by!
