~cottage color~

hello friends!

As per Ticking and Toile tradition....
.....the weather....

we had a nice break from the heatwave last week...
it was in the 70's all weekend & up till today...

today it's high 80's ... ahhhh....love it!

I came across this fun, colorful cottage....
and thought I would share it with you...
the homeowner also owns an antique store
& has a wonderful gift of display~

this is Kristi Stratton, owner of Hunt & Gather
in Minneapolis, MN

her style is so fun & full of color...
I love that she uses such unconventional
pieces in her kitchen & throughout her home
~you won't find anything out of a bigbox store here!

and I am loving the wood on the walls.....
I do believe this is my latest obsession.....

~note to self~
.....must put wood on my walls....

oooooooh....I just noticed I have the same
trophy thingy!

this is her pantry....she is very creative...
wouldn't  you say???

I wonder how long mine could look
 that neat & tidy???

this is the cutest pink cabinet....

she really has a way with mixing all the colors
together....she mixes pink, yellow, blue & green
and the results look fantastic....

I like that she grounds everything in white....
white floors & trim....

fun place huh??

~*~

well....the last 4 days around here have been
pretty crazy.....I've felt like a live in nurse....

we picked up our 12 & 14 year old daughters
from girls camp this last Saturday and

Madi...

was dehydrated & suffering from heat exhaustion
{remember the weather was hovering around 100
here last week....and where the camp was as well}

she hadn't drank much of anything for a day or 2....
in extreme heat & while being very physically active....

so she was very ill....we pumped her full of
gatorade & popsicles & water of course
all Saturday...

by Sunday morning she was "flushed" a symptom
of dehydration that causes your whole body to be bright red.....and puffy..... quite puffy....and had a temperature from 99 to 103 back down to 99 by nighttime.....

we kept a very close eye on her
& nursed her back to health

today she is pretty much 80 - 90% back to normal......
thank God!  nothing like a little excitement.....to make a mom worry....

and today I'm cleaning sheets {that would be our sheets}
our comforter...
and our "flowy & romantic" dust ruffle....

yep....it's all been christened by the sickie...

~note to self~
.....do not let sick children into my bed......;)

well I'm off to swim with my girls.....

Enjoy the rest of your week!

xo,

Shellagh

Sorry to hear your daughter was unwell, it sounds quite scary. So glad to hear she is ok again, Kids, they just don't realise how important water is especially in the summer. You are enjoying heat whilst we are in the midst of the cold. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Oh....I love that little cottage. The pink cabinet. The wood covered walls. I have that goose light. It was in my house for a long time and then I put it out on the back deck. I might need to bring it back in the house. So glad you daughter is better. That is soooo scary.

I'm so glad your dd is on the mend. However, I would give those camp counselors a big huge piece of my mind. They should have been more responsible!
Glad she's ok.....

Loved the cottage you featured. It would make a great beach or lake house. I love wood on walls too and could use some of her other creative display ideas too.

I just love that sweet little cottage. Which is odd for me, considering it's bursting with color and I'm pretty much a white gal.

Awwww, your poor baby! Awww, your poor linens!

Love the cottage pics! She really does have a way with color! I love the photo with the pretty quilt on the wall and the periwinkle blue wicker chair and the yellow dresser. I think what works is that they are mostly pastels. Take good care of that daughter of yours! Isn't it so worriesome when they get sick? The "Joys of Parenthood"!~Hugs, Patti

Hi Shellagh, What a cute cottage you have shown us here. I love it, I could move into that right now and be SO happy!
Sorry to hear that your girls have been so sick, wow being dehydrated can be very scary, huh? When my daughter was going through chemo, when she was a teenager, she became dehydrated after every treatment and we took her to emergency so many times. I'm glad to hear that they are on the mend.
Not a fun way to spend your summer, huh.

HI! I'm new to your blog and am trying to catch up. I did see the gorgeous setee you painted and recovered so I had to read about that. Then I noticed the bed skirt on the bed. Can I ask where you got it? I'm trying to find one like that - one with many gathers and shabby chic looking. I found one at Pottery Barn but it is $79 - a little steep I think. Anyway, I love your blog. Thanks for your help and keep up the good work.

Heat exhaustion is very serious and scary. I had a heat stroke when I was 19 yrs. old while camping in the mountains in 103 degree weather and I was off biking alone on my trek. I only lived I believe because of God. My parents did not take me to the hospital...I should have been taken and hooked up on I.V's for rehydration. By the time I got home and went to the hospital it was too late the Doctor said ...damage was done. It took a very very long time for my body to feel normal again. I still have to be careful in hot weather. Sounds like you got your daughter just in time to nurse her back to health. She may be more sensitive to heat now for the rest of her life. I would be mad that the camp leaders did not keep the kids hydrated. It is dangereous. I'm glad she is okay.

Anyhoo...did you see my giveaway today? Hop over to my blog and get your name in!
